vintage junkie in the news

I've sold almost all of my vintage inventory... Still have a number of high-quality pieces left, but never have any time to sell. Here's how I would have ended up if I hadn't decided to focus on writing, instead... A vintage junkie shares her addiction.

Travel to Buy the Best Vintage Clothing Out of Town: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

In travels for business or pleasure, I always try to make time to hit the local vintage clothing and antique stores. I usually don't travel just to shop (except to Chicago), but if I'm debating going on a trip and know there's a hot vintage spot in the area, that always tips the scales!

An article in the online Milwaukee, Wisconsin newspaper features some of the best vintage clothing stores in Milwaukee. My favorite store on the list is Dragonfly Vintage Goods. They have an eclectic blend of vintage clothing and the shop is located in the Brady Street district, renowned for its people watching.

Do you have a favorite place to shop for vintage clothing out of town?

Northern Kentucky Estate Sales: Ludlow

Ludlow, Kentucky (Kenton Hills) Estate Sale Fri-Sat 9-5 August 3rd. - 4th.

Estate sales in Northern Kentucky and greater Cincinnati are a terrific way to find vintage clothing, antiques and collectibles for a reasonable price. On one hand, it's best to arrive early on the first day, especially if you have a specific item in mind to buy. On the other hand, arriving at the end of the day on the last day of an estate sale can net you some fabulous, inexpensive finds.

Estate sales are held for a number of different reasons. Sometimes sales are held when a family member has passed away, to help empty the home of items not wanted by others in the family. But in recent years, more and more people hold estate sales when they are moving, downsizing, or just need some extra cash. People contract with estate sale companies to handle all of the details, and the company typically gets a percentage of the total sales as payment. The estate sale is usually held in a home, and everything in the house is for sale unless marked otherwise.

Contents of the August 3rd and 4th Ludlow, Kentucky Estate Sale include:

  • Antique and vintage children's toys, some games and other old children's items.

  • Glassware and pottery of all types. Lots of green depression glass. Quilts and linens.

Vintage Flower Handbags Rock Summer

According to The Arizona Republic, vintage handbags with flower detail are hot this year. Click the link though, and you'll find that they mean new handbags with a vintage "look." Eeuuuwwww.

I've been wearing a vintage Margaret Smith flowered handbag for a month or two but may switch to the one in this photo soon. It's an oversized vintage tapestry clutch with a bakelite handle. I found it while hunting down vintage on the west coast earlier this month. Love it!

For Love of the Vintage Handbag: One Woman's Obsession.

One of my countless vintage straw handbags. This vintage wicker purse came from a local vintage clothing store owned by a friend and was a Christmas gift. Love it. My nephew says it's too big but what doth he knoweth about it?
